Bowling Green—Joseph Jerome Vincent Zirkelbach, 90, formerly of Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Joseph was born to Joseph Nicholas Zirkelbach and Virginia Ellen (Smith) Zirkelbach. He was the beloved husband of the late Anza Lee (Castle) Zirkelbach and father to the late Diane Lee Dillon-Wilson. Survivors include a daughter, Virginia (Ginny) French, husband, John (Jack), and son in law Robert C. Wilson. He was blessed with three grandchildren: Phillip (wife, Meridith), Megan, and Christopher as well as two great grandchildren, Seth and Conner. Joe was a 1946 graduate of Northeast High School and a United States Army Veteran. He served in Germany during the Korean War in special services and played football and baseball as entertainment for those on leave and in training. Joseph was employed as an electrician for 44 years with AFA Protective Systems and National Guardian. He was a parishioner of St. Ludwig’s Parish and Holy Innocents Parish in Philadelphia and Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Bowling Green. His memberships included The Philadelphia Columbia Turners Club, The St. Alberta’s Club, The Cannstatter Volksfest-Verein, The Brewerytown-Fairmount Old-Timers Association, as well as the Knights of Columbus and VFW Post 23 of Bowling Green. Joe was an avid sports fan following all of the major sports. He stayed true to his Philly teams–especially his beloved EAGLES as he lived to see them win their first Super Bowl. He also enjoyed following WKU Football. Special thanks to his healthcare team over the years–Drs. Harrigan, Zhu, Bryant, Malmquist, Wentworth, Rutter, Holland, Willis, Thompson and Jill Steen RN and the Medical Center Cardiac Rehab Team; as well as most recently, the Medical Center Staff of 5C and his team at Hosparus. Joe had a long quality of life due to the many Physical Therapists that kept him on his feet: Karen Kilic, Leif Robinson, Claire Klein, and Mary Teahan. In addition, many thanks to the barbers at Hairtage for keeping him looking sharp and Kathy at the Daily News who delivered the paper right up to the door every day. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:45 PM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Saturday, June 29, 2019. Funeral Mass will follow in the church at 1:00 PM. Joseph will be cremated per his wishes and buried at St. Peters Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Spirit Catholic Church-Funeral Meal Ministry or a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to J. C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Joseph Jerome Vincent Zirkelbach 2019.
