Torrez, of Gilroy, California passed away on Sunday May 26, 2019, after reaching the age of 81 years old. He died peacefully with family by his side. Joe was born on August 15, 1937 in Soledad, California to Joseph and Molly Torrez. Joe was raised in San Jose, California. After high school, Joe served in the United States Navy. In 1956, Joe married Virginia Mesa, his high school sweetheart. They had two children, John and Richard Torrez. Upon finishing his military service, Joe entered the painting trade. He was a member of the local painter’s union for over 40 years. Joe was an avid Coca-Cola collector. During his years, he amassed an impressive collection of Coca-Cola items and made friends who would become like family to him. Joe was a talented woodworker. Joe will be remembered for his generosity and most of all his baseball cap. He was a wonderful father and the most amazing grandfather. He is loved and will be missed by many! He is preceded in death by parents Joseph and Molly Torrez; wife, Virginia Mesa Torrez; and son, Richard A. Torrez. Joe is survived by his brother, Ronald Torrez; son, John R. Torrez; daughter-in-law, Anita Torrez; granddaughters, Janae and Danielle Torrez; great-grandsons, Cameron J. Brockington and Jaxon J. Moreno; his second wife, Manuela Torrez; stepchildren Francisco Mendoza and Maria Maldonado; and a host of other beloved friends and relatives. Visitation will be Saturday, June 15, 2019 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am followed by a Celebration of Life beginning at 11:00 am at Habing Family Funeral Home.
