Joseph A. Stankiewicz, “Joey”, age 49 of East Haddam, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from injuries sustained in a tragic automobile accident. Born in Hartford on October 8, 1969, he was a son of the William Stankiewicz, Sr. of West Palm Beach, FL and the late Theresa A. (Fiducia) Stankiewicz. Joey was a tradesman, working in many areas of construction, but most often worked as a skilled stone mason. He was a “Jack of all Trades”, being mechanically inclined, he could fix machines and automobiles alike. Joey loved dinosaur studies, percussion drums, MOPAR Cars, heavy metal music, and animals. He will be remembered for his big heart, for reaching out to people who needed a hand, and as a wild guy who led a simple, uncomplicated life. In addition to his father, he leaves, two children, Joseph A. Stankiewicz, Jr. of East Hartford, Tolin Greenwood of Niantic; two brothers, Billy Stankiewicz, with whom he resided for most of his lifetime, and Adam Stankiewicz of Quincy, MA; a sister, Brenna Stankiewicz of Waterville, ME; his girlfriend, Elisabeth Bergen; and numerous extended family members and friends. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 13th from 10 – 11:30 am at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester. A celebration of life and time of remembrance will be held immediately following at 11:30 am at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
