John George Hela, 79 of Jefferson Twp., Perryopolis, PA, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2019 in Jefferson Hospital. He was born July 5, 1939 in Fayette City, PA, son of George Hela and Elizabeth Brody Hela . He was retired from the US Air Force and also retired from the Pa State prison system as a Correction officer. He was a member of the NRA and American Slovanic Citizens Club of Fayette City. He is survived by two daughters, Lesley Gilmore and Belinda Basters; brother, Steve Hela and wife Georgetta, two sisters, Margaret Buchina and Betty Acklin all of Jefferson Twp., three grandchildren, Chantal Basters, Larissa Basters and Jordan Ahrens; three great-grandchildren, Namira Danielle-Tchatchuing, Mason Ahrens and Mollie Ahrens. He was preceded in death by his father, George Hela and mother Elizabeth Brody Hela. Friends will be received Wednesday, June 12, 2019, 10:00 am to 12:30 pm in the Eley-McCrory Funeral Home,Inc. 334 Main St., Fayette City, PA. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 12:30 pm in the funeral home with Fr. Stephan Gresh officiating Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA 15017.
