Jean’s Obituary Jean Ann (Marketty) Moore, 80, passed away peacefully at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Lakeland, Florida on Thursday, May 2, 2019, with her daughters and three of her four grandchildren surrounding her. Jean Ann was born June 23, 1938 in Negaunee, Michigan. Jean Ann married Jerry Moore on April 27, 1957 after meeting while he was stationed at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in Gwinn, Michigan. During their 62 years of marriage, they raised four daughters, while being stationed in Anchorage, Alaska; Joliet, Illinois; and K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base, Gwinn, Michigan until finally settling in Ishpeming, Michigan to raise their family. Jean Ann was by Jerry’s side during his 22 years in the United States Air Force, moving countless times across the country until settling in Ishpeming. In 1975 she was hired at the Sears Store in Marquette, Michigan as the Service Repair Manager, retiring in 1985. We had the only Mom (at that time) who knew how to fix household appliances. Jean Ann and Jerry wintered in Texas and Florida, moved briefly to Princeton, Indiana, until finally settling in Lakeland, Florida. Jean Ann loved caring for her family the most. True to her Italian heritage, she was happiest when she was cooking and feeding her family and friends. She was an amazing cook and if you left her table hungry, it was your own fault. Jean Ann is survived by daughters Mary Sue Moore of Fort Worth, Texas, Pam (Don) Korpi, Cathy Moore and Ardith Moore all of Marquette, Michigan; grandchildren Melissa Wood, Tia (Dan) Norman, David (Jamie) Korpi, and Jessica (Chris) Warner; great grandchildren Gage and Tyler Wood and Cydney and Emilia Warner – all of whom she was so proud and loved dearly. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law Pauline and Bob Best, sister-in-law Sandy Marketty, and several nieces and nephews. Jean Ann, Jerry, Pauline, and Bob would often get together for lunch or dinner, and when they weren’t able to see each other, Jean Ann and Pauline would enjoy marathon phone calls. Jean Ann is also survived by Tom (Ann) Sowder, Jerry’s very best friend and brother for over 70 years. Jean Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Moore, mother, Agnes Marketty, father, Francis Marketty, sister and brother-in-law Donna and Kenny Garceau, brother Bernard Marketty, and a niece and nephew. Jean was also preceded in death by her very dear friend Alice Sowder. A private military service for Jean Ann and Jerry was held on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home at Serenity Gardens in Lakeland, Florida where cremation took place. A public service will be held at Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home, 400 N. Third Street, Ishpeming, Michigan on Sunday, July 28, 2019. The family will greet relatives and friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Jean Ann and Jerry’s neighbors and special friends, Mary and Walt Walkowski, for their friendship when Jean Ann and Jerry first moved into the neighborhood and for their unlimited caretaking during their illnesses – they were and continue to be a comfort and a blessing to the family. The family would also like to thank the Good Shephard Hospice House staff who treated Jean Ann with respect and dignity during her final days. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Shephard Hospice House, 3470 Lakeland Hills Blvd, Lakeland, FL 33805 or the hospice of their choice. Read More
