Janice’s Obituary Janice Funeral services will be held for Janice Moore, Vivian, SD at the Vivian Lutheran Church on June 8, 2019 at 2 pm. Fellowship will follow with private family inurnment services at the Vivian Cemetery later that day. Janice Odell Selland was born April 10, 1930. She was the sixth of seven children born to Oscar and Jeannette Selland. They grew up at a place on the White River, south of Presho, which is now owned by the Doug Perry family. Janice graduated from Vivian High School in 1948, then received her teaching certificate from Black Hills Teachers College, Spearfish, SD. She taught one year at the Haywood Country School. She was united in marriage to David Moore on June 17, 1949. They made their home in Vivian and there raised four children: Donna, Leslie, Larry and Della. Janice took great pride in being a mother and homemaker. She and Dave rarely, if ever, missed any school or sporting event that involved their children. When their kids were grown, Janice worked as a Vivian Rest Area greeter for the SD Tourism Department for 15 years. Janice had a great love and talent for music and belonged to “The Groovy Grannies” along with friends Lillian Severyn and Elnora Hulce. For years, the ladies performed at many area senior centers and nursing homes. She was a terrific cook and supplied family with her “famous” cinnamon rolls at every gathering. Everyone was welcome in Dave and Janice’s home whether it was family or travelers. For many, many years, their house was the hub for all family gatherings and Janice made everyone feel so welcome that grandkids felt like it was a “magical” place. Janice was a long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Vivian Lutheran Church. As a member of WELCA, she sewed numerous quilts over the years as part of the church’s missionary work. Janice passed away in Winner, SD on June 1, 2019. She is survived by her husband Dave (almost 70 years); daughters, Donna Erikson (Ron) Kinsley; Della (Jerry) Mader; and sons, Leslie (Shelli); Larry (Lezlie); grandchildren, Karsten (Dixie) Erikson, Clint (Tessa) Erikson, Beth (Trusty) Mertens, Courtney (Michael) Gould, Chris (Alicia) Erikson, Casey (Amanda) Hupp, Lex & Lane Moore, Zach (Kenzie) Mader and Lindsay Mader; great grandchildren, Grace Erikson, Josie & Amber Mertens, Ellie, Aaron, Miley & Owen Erikson, James Calhoon, Carter & Evan Erikson, Ruby & Beck Gould, Camden, Archer & Renner Erikson, Zylah & Zaydin Mader, Nolan, Maggie & McKenna Hupp; brother-in-laws Terry (Kay) Moore and Darrel Lintvedt; sister-in-laws Bernice Moore and Margaret Juhnke; plus, numerous nieces and nephews.
