James J. Bower, 78, of Montgomery, died Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. Born October 27, 1940 in Nippenose Valley, he was a son of the late Edward F. and Madeline A. (Keeler) Bower. He and his wife, the former Linda G. Gruver, who survives, were married February 12, 1972. Together they celebrated 47 years of marriage. James graduated from Jersey Shore High School and served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Following his time in the service, he worked as a mechanic, truck driver and welder at R & G Springworks, Pickelner Fuel Company and High Steel Structures, all of Williamsport. James was a collector of antique cars and steam machinery. He also enjoyed his Ham radios and flying model airplanes. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and Craig Miller, of Montgomery and Jaime and Ryan Ambrose, of Conestoga; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Paul Lorson, of Nippenose Valley; one brother, John Bower, of New Mexico; and three grandchildren, Emily, Sophie and Cole. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Fairview Cemetery, Cemetery Hill Road, Montgomery, with the Rev. James Pentz, officiating. The family will provide the flowers. The family is being assisted by Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St. Muncy.
