James was born in Arkansas City, KS on May 25, 1956 to Patricia Barrett and Joe LeMasters. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1974, with an occupation of Wheel Vehicle Mechanic. His military qualifications include Marksman – Rifle M-16, and he earned his Marksman Qualification Badge / Rifle Bar. James was honorably discharged after 2 years of service and earned the rank of PV2. As a young adult, James spent time living in Kansas and California where he met his wife of 2 years Kip House. They married in 1975 and welcomed a daughter, Tatum, into their lives in December of 1976. His daughter Tatum, remembers him as a rock-n-roll loving Dad who introduced her to Black Sabbath at a very young age. James had a fulfilled life spending time with his family and friends who he loved immensely. His life didn’t come without hardship, James was a passionate man, with strong opinions that sometimes got in the way of him keeping his cool. He struggled with feeling misunderstood, but at the end of the day had a good heart, best of intentions and a lot of love he wanted to share and receive. He was faced daily with a disease that required him to rely on daily insulin shots as a Type 1 diabetic. He never let his disease slow him down, just last year he had open heart surgery and was home the next day. He could often be found on the basketball court with his brother Mitch and if a good rock band was in town you could find him there with his siblings, having the time of his life. He was proud and overprotective of his younger sisters Kelly and Toyce. James loved his mother, Patricia very much and enjoyed writing poems to give to her. His love for his brother Randy who was mentally and physically disabled was indescribable. The way both of their faces would light up when they saw one another was breathtaking. James loved to dote on his nephew Richard Epson and his nieces Solar and Saturn and they could always count on an Uncle James Hug. James’s was an avid lover of Black Sabbath, basketball, his animals and antiques. His friends describe him as loving man, who always had a warm welcome and wanted to make sure they knew he was there for them if they needed anything. His longtime companion Barbara Conrad described him as a man with the biggest, loving heart. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in honor of James & Petey LeMasters to Kansas Human Society. The family would like to thank his friends for the love and support they gave James.
