Gordon “Bear”‘s Obituary Fort Dodge – Gordon Michael “Bear” Wood was born on June 11, 1947 in Hutchinson, and this gentle giant left this earth on June 13, 2019 at the age of 72 at the Kansas Soldiers Home, Fort Dodge. He was called Bear by all he considered friends and his family knew him as Mike. He grew up in Wichita, Kansas and after high school, like most young men during that time, Bear left to serve his country. He joined the Army and served from 1965 to 1969 in the 82nd Combat Engineers. After his discharge, he lived in many different places in the US and had many interesting jobs. He returned to Wichita in the 1980’s where he worked most of his career as an over-the-road truck driver and for the City of Wichita. From a very young age, it was obvious Bear was a talented artist and was highly skilled in drawing comic-strip type characters. He identified with fantasy and science fiction and always aspired to be an artist in that field. He had a quirky sense of humor and most people didn’t always “get” him, but it never stopped him from entertaining anyone who would listen. He was incredibly creative. His first love was motorcycles! He began riding when he returned from the service and never lost his love of the wind in his hair and the highway before him. We believe he is riding with angels for eternity. Go rest high our brother, you are loved and you are missed. He is survived by a brother Lonnie K. Wood (Nancy) of Wichita; a sister Marsha J. Wood (Don) of Waterloo, IL; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and of course, his dog SoftTail.
