Gloria’s Obituary CHARLESTON, IL – Gloria Lee Nees Eddinger, age 86 of Charleston, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 2, 2019 while at her Heartland Christian Village home. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2019 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. The Funeral Service, honoring and celebrating her life, will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral chapel with Pastor John Reside officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon. Donations in her honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and may be left at the visitation/service or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Gloria was born September 7, 1932 in Charleston, Illinois a daughter of the late Ernest and Hazel (Fritz) Neal. She married Orville Dean Nees, Sr. and she is survived by five children from that marriage: Darrell Nees and wife Susie of Charleston, Nancy Rayburn of Paris, Illinois, Linda Walters of Charleston, Orville Dean Nees, Jr. and wife Tomi of Cooks Mills, Illinois and Christy Franklin and husband Toby of Charleston. Following Orville’s death on August 14, 1963, she later married Samuel Eddinger, Jr. and is survived by three children from that marriage: Anna Epperson and partner Rick Gabbard of Charleston, Samuel Eddinger, III and wife Erin of Charleston and Edward Eddinger and wife Angela of Marshall, Illinois. Samuel preceded her in death on January 11, 2001. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews including a truly special niece, Vickie Bishop and her husband Jim of Neoga, Illinois; 25 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Gloria was also preceded in death by a granddaughter; two brothers, Ernie and Robert Neal; and three sisters, Betty Brinkley, Joan Gordon and Patty Walker. Gloria was a woman of faith and for many years considered Bethel Chapel to be her church home. Currently she was a member of Central Christian Church in Charleston and was always steadfast in her daily devotions, reading the Bible in its entirety at least three times. Gloria was a homemaker and the matriarch of her family and her extended family, which included foster children, those that she cared for in her home daycare, and her many grandchildren whom she loved to babysit. Even though her home was often filled with children, it was meticulously cared for and everything was in its place. She enjoyed crocheting, was a collector of angels, and was known to be a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. Gloria’s family will dearly miss her, but are blessed with an abundance of fond memories to treasure and cherish. Funeral Service The funeral service celebrating and honoring the life of Gloria Nees Eddinger was held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2019 at Adams Funeral Chapel with Pastor John Reside officiating. Erin Eddinger, a daughter-in-law, gave the eulogy. Musical selections included a recording by Steve Burrus of “How Great Thou Art” and additional recorded selections of “Old Rugged Cross”, “Jesus Loves Me”, “Hallelujah” and “Go Rest High On That Mountain”. Burial followed in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon. Pallbearers were: Brett Walters, Nathan Rayburn, Aaron DeRouisse, Austin Epperson, Gary Nees and Michael Thoele.
