Savoie September 17, 1927 – June 01, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card CANKTON / CARENCRO ~ Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Berchman’s Roman Catholic Church in Cankton for Gertrude M. Savoie, age 91, the former Gertrude Miller, who passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Evangeline Oaks Guest House in Carencro. Interment will be in St. John Berchman’s Cemetery in Cankton. The Rev. William Miller, pastor of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Raymond, LA, will officiate at the services. Mrs. Savoie was a native and lifelong resident of Cankton where she was a parishioner of St. John Berchman Catholic Church. She was a Lay Minister, member of the Choir, Eucharistic Minister, Lector and also led the rosary in French at church. Mrs. Savoie graduated from College of the Sacred Heart in 1948 with a B.A. in English and Education. She retired with the St. Landry Parish School System in Cankton and Bristol after 22 years of service. Mrs. Savoie enjoyed cooking Sunday lunch for her family and friends, anyone who would join. Survivors include three daughters, Joy S. Usie and her husband, Mike, of Sunset, Susan S. Ball and her husband, Russell, of Pearland, TX, and Shelly S. Thompson and her husband, Dr. Scott Thompson, of Lafayette; five grandchildren, John Hebert and his wife, Natalie, Greg Hebert and his wife, Dr. Missy D. Hebert, Jennifer Ball Wadlington and her husband, Kyle, Will Thompson, and Matthew Thompson; three great-grandchildren, Avery Grace Hebert, Micah Vicente Hebert, and Marshall Young Wadlington; one brother, Malcolm Miller and his wife, Joanna, of Opelousas; one sister, Sylvia M. Sibille; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Wilfred Savoie, Jr.; her parents, Freddie Miller and the former Corinne Guilbeau; and one brother, Fred Allen Miller. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday. Pallbearers will be John Hebert, Gregory Hebert, Will Thompson, Matthew Thompson, Kyle Wadlington and Craig Sibille. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Usie, Micah Hebert, Russell Ball and Scott Thompson. A heartfelt appreciation is extended to her loving caregivers Suzette Antoine, Lisa Venable and the staff of Evangeline Oaks Guest House for their compassion and loving care.
