(Eastern Standard Time) Mr. Kirkland was born to William Lawson Kirkland and Doris Kirkland Williams on December 20, 1942 in Opelika, AL. He died peacefully on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham. Gerry spent most of his life in the car business, eventually becoming the sales manager for the Chevrolet dealership in Manchester, GA. He loved his family and his dog and was Baptist by faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, and granddaughter, Brooke Jackson. Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Kirkland of Ashland; four children: Amanda “Mandy” Jackson (Marshall) of Folkston, GA, Scott Lawson Kirkland of Newnan, GA, Jay Skeen of Columbus, GA and Yvette Car (Jason) of Ashland; six grandchildren: Micah Dean, Fielding Dean, Ashley Kirkland, Cameron Kirkland, Kayla Kirkland, Eric Car and Jamison Car; four great-grandchildren: Kali, Kari-Marie, Ansley and Lauren; cousin Terry Kirkland (Mary). The family will receive friends on Friday, June 21, 2019 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. (Central Standard Time) at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland. Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
