Gary Loitz was born on February 27th 1960 to Jimmy and Margaret Loitz. He was a St. Mary’s student through eighth grade and graduated from Fredericksburg High School. Growing up he loved getting with the cousins to go fishing, chasing armadillos and the weekly football game down on the lot; where the neighborhood kids gathered. Cooling off with a trip to Dairy Queen for a Cherry Dr Pepper or Coke. Nightlife was spent at Pats Hall dancing around the old oak tree or just dragging Main Street. He enjoyed sports but was more into cars… specifically restoring antiques cars and of course his SS Cheval. He did mechanic work and bodywork until he found the love of climbing poles where he became a class Alineman. Gary served in the National Guard and took pride in that. He stayed in the Fredericksburg /San Antonio area until he went to work for PECand ended up in Jonestown outside Austin. Gary loved fishing, hunting and hang out in Willow City, Doss, Mason, and the hunts in South Texas with Dean, cousins and friends. If it was walking the creek to find arrow heads, building the cabin, working in Doss, sitting around the camp fire or making sausage, it was always a good time and lots of laughter. Gary loved telling stories of the good old days. He looked forward to cooking for the annual Loitz reunion and the all nighter at the park with cousins. Gary was a private person but in 1990 Dean and Whitney actually invaded Gary when they moved in with him. Changed a few of his ways! Then in 1993, Gary met Nancy Taylor. He was a patient at the Allergy Clinic where she worked. Everyone there said they would be perfect for each other and they were both instantly smitten. They grew to know they had found deep and lasting true love; not the silliness of infatuation but that love would endure through all of life’s ups and downs. After two incredible years, the couple wed in 1995 and settled in Jonestown, TX. In 1999 Nancy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Together they learned to face any challenge their health would bring. In 2010, the couple relocated to the beautiful town of Lynchburg, Virginia nestled at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. There they would be surrounded by stepchildren and their growing families. Gary and Nancy are the tremendously proud parents of 5, grandparents of 15 and great grandparents to 1. His grandchildren all loved their gentle “Pop.” He enjoyed showing them his hunting trophies, his arrowhead collection and always shared his love of the outdoors with them. You often could find him in the garage catching up with his brother, in his man cave watching a John Wayne Western or enjoying his daily lunch of sausage and deer jerky. Gary’s heart was always in Texas. He was very proud to give, his nephew, Josh his hooks when Josh became a lineman. He traveled to stay with Dean, Whitney, Lauren and Chad every year. He would stay weeks so he could go to Mason to hunt or to have manly time with Chad and his friends. He always made time to come by to see family inFredericksburg and visited with many friends. He really got back into sports by becoming an avid fan of his nephew Chad at Texas A&M. He just kept his distance from Lauren, never knowing what she may pull next on him. Dean was his best friend and his rock. What a blessing it was to spend time and enjoy the long visits. Gary was truly involved and was supportive, never forgetting a birthday and left many messages of love. He was a simple, kind man who made room for everyone he was around. His unique sense of humor and welcoming spirit made life fun and are the fabric of many beautiful memories we will forever cherish. A faithful Husband, Step Father, Pop, Brother, Uncle and Son. Unfortunately smoking took a toll on his life and cut it short, way too young. He is now reunited with his Mom, Dad, Brother in law, David, Cousins, Family and Friends, along with many others. Gary will never be forgotten or replaced. SERVICES Visitation Monday, June 17, 2019 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM Schaetter Funeral Home-Fredericksburg 301 E.
