March 4 1951 January 5 2019 (age 67)
Gary E. Roy, previously of Berlin, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Concord hospital. For nearly two years, he had been living at the New Hampshire Veterans Home. He was 67 years old. Born in Berlin on March 4, 1951 he was the son of Eugene and Elizabeth (Hughes) Roy. He graduated from Berlin High School in 1970 and attended the Vocational College in Laconia. In 1971, he joined the Navy where he served 17 years. He was trained and worked as a photographer’s mate until he advanced to the aircraft electrical field. He worked as a maintenance aircraft troubleshooter and was assigned to several aircraft carriers in his career. Upon honorable discharge, he returned to his home town to raise his three children, the accomplishment for which he was the most proud. After his time in the military, he then continued his education at the Berlin Vocational College, earning a degree in Computer Technology. Gary had a giant heart and a generous spirit. He would give you the last shirt off his back if you needed it, and wore his heart on his sleeve. His family was his top priority, regardless of the sacrifices it meant he had to make. He was a coach and a Boy Scout leader for his sons. He was always his children’s number one supporter regardless of the endeavors they pursued. Besides his family, he had a strong belief in his Catholic Faith. He had been an alter server at Good Shepherd Parish and Holy Family Church, and a follower and true believer of the Divine Mercy. He was a lifelong member of the VFW Post #2520, the American Legion Post 82, a lifelong member of the Disabled American Veterans, and served on the White Mountain Veterans Council where he served many roles and was appointed to many positions. While he served endless hours as a volunteer; his heart truly lied with the Voice of Democracy Scholarship and the implementation and coordination of the DAV Van. He was awarded the Loyalty Day Award “for his dedication to the VFW and all Veterans.” He is predeceased by his parents and beloved Uncle Omer Roy. He leaves behind his three children: Amy Fillion and husband Corey of Bedford, NH, Moe Roy of Las Vegas, NV and Peter Roy of Manchester, NH; two grandchildren, Alyson and Cameron Fillion; two sisters, Faith Holloway of Texas and Estelle Page and husband Maurice of Berlin; and five nieces and nephews, Dana, Kevin and Amy Page, Karen Griffith and Kenneth Ramsey. Calling hours will be held prior to the Service on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 10:00am to 12:30pm at Fleury-Patry Funeral Home, 72 High Street, Berlin, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held following the calling hours on Saturday, January 12th at 1:00pm at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. Interment will follow at a later date at St. Kieran’s’ Cemetery.
