Elmer Otto Kiesling, 86, of Jefferson City passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2019, at Capital Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 29, 1933, in Lohman, Missouri, the son of the late John and Leona (Weber) Kiesling. On July 4, 1953, Elmer was united in marriage in Russellville, Missouri, to his high school sweetheart, Jo Ann Leslie Kiesling. Elmer was a graduate of Russellville High School where he was salutatorian of his class and a State Farmer. After graduating from high school, he entered the United States Army and was stationed in Laurel, Maryland. He worked for the Finance Department of the Army. After his service time, he attended the University of Missouri College of Engineering where he graduated as a civil engineer. During his college years, he worked for the Department of Transportation. After his college graduation, he worked as an estimator for Roy Scheperle Construction Company. In 1977 he became part-owner of United HRB Construction where he worked until his retirement at age 65. During the next ten years, he served as a consultant for that firm. Elmer enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He was fond of spending quality time at his farm with his cattle. He never missed a Cardinal baseball game or Mizzou basketball game on television. He was a loyal Jay fan, and his legacy was being selected as contractor and managing the construction of the new Atkins Stadium- Home of the Jays. He took many trips with friends and business partners through the years to different countries and Hawaii. He enjoyed numerous trips with his family to Florida. Elmer was a loving husband, a caring dad, and a doting grandfather to his three granddaughters. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0005, the Eagles Lodge, the Jay Booster Club, the Mizzou Alumni Association, the Miller County Cattlemen’s Association, the National Society of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, and a Board Member of the Salvation Army. Church was a large part of Elmer’s life as he was a charter member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church for 60 years. He held many church offices and spent his latter years helping to establish the Prayer Garden at the church. Along with his wife Jo Ann of 66 years, he is survived by his daughter, Joni Naudet of Wilmington, North Carolina; his son, Timothy Kiesling, and wife Shelly of Jefferson City, Missouri; and three granddaughters, Christa and Michaela Kiesling of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Coral Naudet of Wilmington, North Carolina; brother, Walter (Joy) Kiesling of Russellville, Missouri, nephews, Ron (Charlene) Kiesling of Polk City, Iowa, and Roger (Virginia) Kiesling of Hutto, Texas. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents and brother and sister-in-law Ralph and Tillie Kiesling. Visitation will be Monday, July 1, 2019, 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Celebration of life will be July 2, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Scott Musselman officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lohman, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, donations may be may be made to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
