Edith’s Obituary Edith Odell Walton, 91, of Texarkana, TX, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Autumn Leaves in Henderson, TX, surrounded by immediate family. Edith was born July 24, 1927, in Texarkana, AR, to the late Wallace J. and Gladys Hanson Neal and lived in Texarkana most of her life. She graduated from Texas High School and retired from Texarkana Independent School District after many years as a cafeteria manager. Edith’s plans to marry the love of her life, Roy Walton, were put on hold while he went to war. His family received the dreaded missing in action letter from the United States Army, but Edith refused to believe he had died. Sure enough, three plus years later, Roy was found alive in a prisoner of war camp in the mountains of Japan after the war had ended. They married on June 10, 1946, and lived a wonderful life together for 63 years. Edith’s passions included spending time with her family, gardening, ceramics, and watching the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys. She was known by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren as “Mamaw”. Mamaw sent birthday and Christmas presents to each one of them each year until she passed away. Edith was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Roy Walton and three brothers, Fred Neal, Carlton “Buddy” Neal, and Wallace Neal. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Sondra Walton of Granbury, TX, and Ron and Jayme Walton of El Dorado, AR; one daughter, Edith Ann (Edie) McGee of Henderson, TX; two brothers, Frank Neal of DeSoto, TX, and Richard Neal of Rockport, TX; 8 grandchildren, Eric McGee, Max McGee, Ryan T. Walton, Jamie Abbott, Jennifer Eisenbach, Samantha Tyous, Brandi McDermott, and Kimberly Womack; 23 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and a number of other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas Chapel, with the Rev. Maxine Hanson Sumner officiating. Burial will be in Rondo Cemetery under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 P.M. Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas.
