E.A. “Chick” Hackney, age 80, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2019 at the Cornerstone Hospice at Orlando Health. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 30 at 2:00pm at A Community Funeral Home, 910 W. Michigan Street, Orlando FL 32805. Chick was born and raised a “Brooklyn Boy”. He grew up in a large extended family in Brooklyn, NY and was an avid Brooklyn Dodgers fan, attending as many games as possible at Ebbets Field. When he was a teen, his family moved to Valley Stream, Long Island where he attended Central High School and established a chapter of his Brooklyn fraternity, Alpha Omega Theta. After graduating from high school, Chick headed to Florida Southern College where he became a Pike with Pi Kappa Alpha received his degree in 1961. After college, Chick lived and raised his family in Connecticut, where he began his life-long career in fleet management for nationwide trucking corporations. When he and his family moved back to Florida in the early ‘70s, it was in this industry that he started his own consulting business, American Fleet and Lease Consulting. Chick had a bigger-than-life personality. He was known and loved as a huge-hearted family man and a loyal friend, having maintained close friendships since high school and college. He also had a remarkable ability to garner respect, admiration and love from people when they were meeting him for the first time. One might say his lifelong loves were family, fishing and food, in that order. But his love of the University of Florida Gators was right up there with his best and favorite things in life. It was his personal joy to sit at the piano, surrounded by those he loved, joking, laughing, and sipping wine as he played one jazzy tune after another. Chick is survived by his wife of 39 years, Alvina (Allen) Hackney as well as his daughters, Elaine Hackney (Carl Tremblay), Delaine Hackney (Eric Hunziker), Jenny Hackney, Dr. Teena Hughes (Roger A. Hughes) and Stephanie Whiddon (Idalia Chica Diaz), and his sons, Tony Whittle and Terry Whittle, as well as his sister Elaine Hackney. He will be lovingly missed by his nine grandchildren: Bobby Hackney (Lindsay Hackney), Dr. R.A. Hughes, Ellery Tremblay, Casey Hughes, Spencer Hughes, Lucie Tremblay, Rose Tremblay, Holden Hughes and Tyler Whittle. He will be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law and her husband Cindy and Rick Shearer, their children and grandchild, and finally, by his cousins, his cousins’ children and his cousins’ grandchildren, all from that same extended family where it all began. In lieu of flowers, Chick’s family encourages donation to the Michael J Fox Foundation for a cure for Parkinson’s Disease. You can find information at www.michaeljfox.org
