Dr. Dwight “Doc” Holliday, 70, of Murray, passed away June 7, 2019 at his residence. Dr. Holliday was born on November 12, 1948 in Baton Rouge, LA to the late James Sydney and Iona McKay Holliday. He was in the United States Army and served in Vietnam from 1968-1970. He earned his Bachelors Degree from Louisiana State University, Masters from Southeastern Louisiana University and his Doctorate at University of Southern Mississippi. Dr. Holliday began his teaching career in public education in Mobile, AL, later moving to University of Indiana Crown Point and finished his teaching career at Murray State University. He was a life member of American Legion, Kentucky and National; a member of Southern Poverty Law Center and National Youth Leadership. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Auraleigh Melacon. Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Rose Redmon Holliday of Murray to whom he married on May 21, 2005; two sons, Dr. Darryl Holliday (April) of New Orleans and Yogi Dwayne Holliday (Alyce) of Germany; a daughter, Dr. Jessica Holliday of San Francisco, CA; a brother, James “Jimmy” Holliday, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA; a sister, Linda Holliday of Baton Rouge, LA and one grandson, Lloyd Holliday. Burial with military honors will take place at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, KY at a later date. Imes Funeral Home & Crematory, downtown Murray is in charge of caring for the family of Dr. Holliday. Condolences may be shared online at www.imesfh.com.
