Douglas’ Obituary Douglas H. Cook, 64, of Durant, IA, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2019 at his home. Douglas was born in Davenport, IA on November 28, 1954 to Harlan and Viva (Trail) Cook. Doug graduated from Durant High School in 1973 and graduated from Northeast Missouri State University (Truman University) with a bachelor degree in Criminal Justice. Doug married Debra J. Bland on February 18, 1978 in Durant. He retired in 2015 as the Chief of Police for the city of Durant, after 41 years of service. He was a former member of the Durant Jaycees. He enjoyed playing cards and watching NASCAR. He was a founding member and volunteer with the Durant Ambulance Service for 38 years. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 3, 2019 from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Bentley Funeral Home in Durant. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Durant Cemetery. Doug is survived by his wife Deb and their children: Erin (Craig) Stansfield and Matt (fiancee Alexis Elgatian) all of Durant, 3 grandchildren: Tyler, Grace and Brynn, his brothers: Charles (Donna) Cook of Greers Ferry, AR and Robert (Darline) Cook of Winter Springs, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial has been established in his memory. Doug would like it to be known cancer didn’t beat him, it died when he did. So, technically it was a tie.
