Dorothy Rae Swafford 2019

2019
Dorothy Rae Swafford, 74, left this world on Saturday, June 22, 2019. She was born July 29, 1944 at home to Alton Parker Lewis and Clyde Jeston May in Casey County, Kentucky. She was the youngest of their ten children. She first attended a one room school house then graduated from Casey County High School where she was named “happiest girl” in her class. She worked for several years pressing and manufacturing vinyl records at Philips Recording Company in Richmond, Indiana. She showed her love through food especially her bacon and eggs, sausage gravy, spaghetti, and salmon croquettes. She had the greenest of green thumbs often getting her flowers to bloom out of season and winning awards for her roses. She was an avid NASCAR and Jimmie Johnson fan. She was a voracious reader especially of Sue Grafton and other mysteries. She was quite the prankster and was sometimes referred to as “the queen of throwing shade”. She was a loving but strict mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who was often generous to a fault. She was most often described as little but feisty. She had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and a deep desire to travel. She never left the house without first applying make up and perfume. She is survived by her husband, Homer Swafford, her daughters, Stephanie Haley, Ava Corbin, and Jessica Swafford, her son-in-law, Ben Speigle, grandchildren, Joshua Corbin, Walter Corbin III, Bo Corbin, Elaine Fennell, Christopher Williams, Taylor Singer, and Justin Williams, and four great grandchildren, Neveah, Braxton, Anamoly, and Evelyn. She was preceded in death by her two sons, Brian Lewis and Glen Kirk Monday, and her beloved pit bull, Grog. Visitation will be 10 to 11am Thursday, June 27 at Tucker, Yocum, and Wilson Funeral Home. Graveside services at Georgetown Cemetery will follow directly after and will be presided over by Susan Caldwell and Nathaniel Price. A gathering of friends/potluck will be held at Faith Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Homer Swafford, Jessica Swafford, Ben Speigle, Stephanie Haley, Walter Corbin III, and Bo Corbin.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Dorothy Rae Swafford 2019.
