Dorothy Y. Laughlin, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 20, 2019, in Dexter, MI. She was born September 19, 1930 to William and Anne (Wesa) Addis. She was a life-long resident of the Ann Arbor area. Dorothy married the love of her life, Lyle Laughlin, on July 16, 1948. Dorothy often remarked that “nothing is more important than family.” Together, Dorothy and Lyle raised four children; Keith (Juliet); Larry (Pat); Terry (Janice); and Lori Tweedy (Darren). Dorothy greatly enjoyed the company of her grandchildren, Jana Laughlin (Sina); Emily Horner (Matt); Scott Tweedy; Jake Laughlin; Megan Laughlin; and Derek Laughlin. In her final years, she was delighted by the arrival of great grandchildren, Mina Rassam, Nava Laughlin and Travis Horner. Dorothy was also close to her numerous nieces and nephews. Throughout her long life her favorite time was spent with her family — be it playing cards or ice skating in the winter or sitting on a Lake Michigan beach in the summer. Dorothy also enjoyed camping, traveling, antiquing, bargain shopping and following University of Michigan sports teams. She was preceded in death by Lyle, her husband of 46 years; her sister Ruth Rupert; twin-sister Darline Warner; sister-in-law Ruth Bock; her son Terry and Pat. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 from 10am – 12pm with a Celebration of Life at 12pm at Nie Family Funeral Home (3767 W. Liberty Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48103). A luncheon will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dorothy’s name to Arbor Hospice (2366 Oak Valley Dr., Ann Arbor, MI 48103).
