Dorothy’s Obituary Dorothy Harder Smith, age 91, went home to our Lord on Sunday, May 12, 2019 after a short illness. She was a life-long resident of Premont, Texas. Dorothy was born in Shafter, CA to Abe and Ann (Janz) Harder on April 16, 1928. The family relocated to Falfurrias, Texas where Dorothy spent her childhood, graduated from Falfurrias High School, and worked as a telephone operator. She met Jack L. Smith on New Year’s Eve at Kings Inn in Riviera, Texas and they were united in marriage October 8, 1947. They had a long and happy life together. Dorothy enjoyed reading, crafting, and sewing. She was a talented seamstress who loved sewing for her children and grandchildren. She was also an avid bottle hunter. She and her sister, JoAnn explored old South Texas ranches searching for and digging up old bottles. Her collection was quite large and unique. Dorothy was famous for her homemade apple pie. Dorothy enjoyed her grandchildren taking an interest in their school and extracurricular activities. She attended many sporting events and “cheered them on”. The grandchildren have many stories of hanging out with their “Mops”. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Smith; her parents, Abe and Ann Harder; sister, JoAnn (Harder) Smith; and daughter-in-law Marciel (Brown) Smith. She is survived by her Aunt Faye (Harder) Smith; five children: Jack R.
