Doris Elaine Wilson passed away on June 28, 2019 at Mercy Medical-Long Term Care in Centerville. Doris was born on August 7, 1920 to Lloyd Cedric & Velta (Ransom) Davis. She was later joined by siblings: Lois, Donald, Vera, Roland, Leland, Leora, Max, Lucille & Eileen. Doris & Lois started Center School and attended through 8th grade together. They also attended all of high school together, graduating from the Centerville class of 1939. During the high school years, Doris took the Normal Teachers Training class and taught the next four years at various country schools in Appanoose County. Doris met Trenton Donald Wilson on the Centerville, Iowa square and were later married on Easter Sunday April 25, 1943 in the Christian Church Parsonage at Bloomfield, Iowa. They made their home west of Moravia, Iowa in a two-story white house that was later replaced in 1950 with a new one where they called home for many years. Doris loved: baking, gardening and sewing with her brand, new Singer Sewing machine. She mastered the art of candy making after attending a candy making class and then taught nieces & nephews. One of her many great accomplishments was a handmade afghan with the Tapestry Rose pattern. She was active in the Moulton P.E.O., the Moravia Eastern Star and was affiliated with the Moravia Methodist Church. Doris is survived by her brother, Leland & (Cora) Davis; sister, Lucille Wood- Bird; sister-in-law, Joan Davis; brother-in-law, Jack Fowler and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding her in death was her parents, husband, Trenton on November 30, 1974; family members: Donald, Roland & Max Davis, Lois & Neal Fox, Leora & Don Whisler, Vera & Bob White, Eileen Fowler, Hugh B. Wood, Frank Bird, Mardeena & Ed Jr. White and Jay & Lois Wilson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2019 at Grace United Methodist Church in Moravia with Pastor Christy Ehrle officiating. Interment will immediately follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service from 10-11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church and online condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com or facebook.com/thomasfuneralhome.
