Donald Ralph Distelhorst , 91, of Burlington, died Saturday, June 15, 2019, at the Burlington Care Center. Born December 19, 1927, in Burlington, he was the son of William and Mildred Gysin Distelhorst. On November 21, 1954, he married Betty C Wolfe at Aldersgate Chapel in Burlington. She passed June 18, 1993. Donald’s passion in life was continuing his family’s legacy on their Iowa Century Farm. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War from December 7, 1950 until December 9, 1952. Donald was a member of Wings of Praise Christian Outreach Church and served as an usher. He enjoyed morel mushroom hunting, collecting and finding Native American Indian Artifacts on the farm, and had a love and passion for the game of baseball. Survivors include one daughter, Sherry Distlehorst of Richardson, TX; two sons, Michael Distelhorst of Wilmington, NC and Timothy (Brenda) Distelhorst of Burlington; three grandchildren, Katheryn Higgins of Norman, OK, Jessica Distelhorst of Sacramento, CA, and Daniel Distelhorst of Boston, MA: one daughter-in-law, Mary Distelhorst of Tulsa, OK. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Steven and Jeffrey Distelhorst; two brothers, James & Bill Distelhorst; and one sister, Bonnie Wyss. The funeral service for Mr. Distelhorst will be 2:00 PM Friday, June 21, 2019, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Brenda Distelhorst officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A memorial has been established for Wings of Praise Church.
