Dell LaMar Olson November 8, 1930-2019 Dell L. Olson, 88 passed away peacefully in his home at Reena Senior Living in Fort Atkinson on May 31, 2019 after a short struggle with cancer. Born in Whitewater, WI in 1930, Dell attended Whitewater High School, where he lettered in football, basketball and tennis before graduating in 1949. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served overseas from 1951–1955. He married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie Doris Skindingsrude, also of Whitewater in 1955 and together they raised three sons: Erik (b.1956), Paul (b.1958), and Christopher Lars (b.1962). Dell is survived by his sons, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. As a teacher, counselor and administrator, Dell served in the Jefferson School District for 31 years, dedicating himself to getting young people started on the right path and making smart career decisions. He continued training young teachers after his retirement in 1989 as a field studies supervisor at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Dell served his community as a president and Paul Harris fellow of the Jefferson chapter of Rotary International; a member of the Jefferson Masonic Lodge; and a member of the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce. A visitation will be held at the Olson-Gibson Funeral Home in Jefferson on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 PM. A private family service will be held later. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dell’s honor may be made to the Dell Olson Educator Development Fund, a fund that will furnish stipends for teachers in the Jefferson School District. The memorial donations may be made at Premier Bank 320 S. Center Ave. Jefferson, WI 53549.
