Debra’s Obituary JACKSON – Debra L. Departed this life June 22, 2019. The family will receive friends Saturday June 29, 2019 10 AM at Calvary Baptist Church, 1184 Genesee St., where Funeral Services will follow at 11 AM. Jackson, 68, Social Worker and active in Calvary Baptist Church for over 55 years Debra L. Jackson who was a Social Worker and active member of the Calvary Baptist Church for over 55 years, passed away on June 22. Debra was the fourth of 11 children and a lifelong resident of Buffalo New York. She was educated in the public-school system and attended PS #6, #8, Woodlawn Junior High and East High School in 1968. Debra valued education and was the first of her siblings to attend and graduate from college. She received a Bachelor’s in Social Work from Rosary Hill College (now Daemen College) in 1972; and a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Michigan in 1986. She served in many capacities after her completing her formal education. Debra began her career as a Family Partner with Bethel Head Start and over the years advanced to the position of Director of A Better Community (ABC) in Rochester, NY; and Bethel Head Start (Lackawanna & Buffalo). Debra was a Federal Monitor / Consultant of Head Start Programs nationally; where she traveled extensively throughout the United States. She was employed by the Board of Education as a substitute teacher and at the time of her passing she as an Assistant Project Director for SUNY Erie Community College. Debra had many professional accomplishments; none were as important as her service to God. Debra served for many years as Sunday School Superintendent, Teacher and Christian Education leader/member. Stewardship was not far behind her love of Christian education where she served as a Trustee for over 20 years. She praised and worshipped faithfully as a choir member. Debra was also an active member of the Decker Street Block Club. Whether at school, work, church or in her community, Debra established and maintained authentic and lifelong connections to many friends during her 68 earthly years. Surviving are four sisters, Jacqueline, Rev. Gloria Bryant, Delores D. A. and Evette L.; three brothers Donald W. “Wayne”, James L. “Tammy” and Ronald E. “Eric”; scores of nieces and nephews; a Goddaughter, Timberlynn Johnson; a Godson, Shawn Fields; and long-time companion, Raymond Goodrum. The family will receive friends and guests at 10am on Saturday at the Calvary Baptist Church, 1184 Genesee Street where the celebration of Debra’s life will begin at 11am.
