David Lee Mathias November 17, 1942 – June 09, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Upload Photo| Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card David Lee Mathias, 76 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2019, at Amherst Manor Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. David was born November 17, 1942, in Columbus, Ohio and traveled all over the globe as a member of the US Air Force. Amherst has been his home for the last 13 years. David proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and retired from the US Air Force after 20 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his wife at Jamie’s Flea Market selling Avon products. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Donna Christine Mathias (nee: Gibson); his children Steven Mathias of Bellevue, NE, Scott Mathias of Chapel Hill, NC, Lisa Mathias of GA and Christopher Bryant of Amherst; several grandchildren; his brother Richard Barnette; and his sisters Judy Noble of Hebron, OH and Vicki Shepherd of MA. David was preceded in death by his parents Russell and Beauty Mathias. Friends may call Saturday, June 15, 2019, from 7:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral at 8:00 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio.
