Daisy Bell Simmons November 26, 1934 – June 12, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook Daisy Bell Simmons the youngest of nine children was born to the late Thomas and Daisy McNeil on November 26, 1934 in Cordesville, South Carolina. On Wednesday, June 12, 2019, God dispatched His angels to bring her from “Labor to Reward” into His Heavenly Kingdom. Daisy Bell attended St. Luke A.M.E Church in Cordesville and Berkeley School system. She moved to New York where she was a seamstress for 10 years in a factory. Daisy joined Second Canaan Baptist Church in 1972 where she served as a faithful member until it was demolished in 2017. She was a Deaconess, an Usher and a choir member. While attending Second Canaan she met and married her late husband Luther Simmons on July 4, 1974. They were married for 25 years until he preceded her in death. Daisy later joined Mt. Neboh Baptist Church until her health declined. Daisy had a yearning to pursue greater employment opportunities. In 1986, she enrolled in Apex Beauty School where she earned her certificate in Cosmetology. Hair was a passion for her. She was employed in various beauty salons all over Harlem. Daisy loved to attend church. She was a great cook and most of all she loved her family. Daisy was preceded in death by her only daughter, Barbara Lucas; four brothers, Johnny, Julius, Andrew and James Peter JP; two sisters, Bertha and Catherine; and five stepchildren, Luther Jr., Leon, Louise, Mary and Gloria. She leaves to cherish her memories: one grandson, Corey Lucas (NY); five stepchildren, Doris Gadson (Howard), NY, Maxine Simmons, Linda Simmons, Arthur Simmons (Ruth), NY, and Edward Simmons (Tottie), VA; two brothers, Oscar McNeil (NC) and James McNeil (Dorothy), NY; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two dear friends, Martha Smith and Gene Ramsay; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
