Clay’s Obituary Clay Gardner Barger, 77, of Leota, Indiana, a resident of Lake Point Village in Scottsburg, passed away at 3:44 PM on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Scott Memorial Health. Born April 12, 1942 in Oneida, KY, he was the son of Clay Barger and Clara (Smith) Barger. He was graduate of Austin High School where he found his love of United States History and followed his dreams of becoming a teacher when he graduated from Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Kentucky. He then received his Master’s Degree in Teaching from Indiana University, Bloomington. He was hired upon graduating from college by Scott County Schools District 1 and this is where he remained until his retirement. During his tenure he serviced in many roles. He was a coach, class sponsor many times, Assistant Athletic Director and Curriculum Coordinator. In the 1980’s he also help sponsor and direct many Country Music/Talent shows. Which gave students a place to showcase their abilities. He also worked for the C.E.D.A program for underprivileged youth in the mid-80’s allowing teens to earn money, learn skills and gain experience in working during summer break. Clay also took after his father and enjoyed building houses and selling them. Before having to move to the nursing home he was in the process of remolding his entire house. Another pass time of his was to write songs and play his guitar. Survivors include, one son, Miles Brandan Barger of Los Angeles, CA, two brothers, Cecil (Nancy) Barger of Commiskey, IN and Claybie (Ramona) Barger of Austin, IN. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Linton Barger, two sisters, Janice DeWitt and Mary Elizabeth Liggett. Memorial services will be conducted by Rick Romero at 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 23, 2019 with visitation from Noon until 2:00 PM on Sunday, all at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 138 Westavia Blvd., Scottsburg, IN 47170.
