Charlotte “Char” Ann Newman Farnes, age 76, passed away in the middle of the night May 29, 2019 due to meeting a cancer more stubborn than she was. She was born March 2, 1943 to Alice “Bunny” Riley Newman and Arthur LeGrand Newman in Bountiful, Utah. She eloped and married Gerald “Jerry” Andrew Farnes on Nov 13, 1966 in Elko, Nevada. They were later sealed in the summer of 1980 in the Salt Lake Temple. Jerry preceded her in death in 2001. Char loved people and generally expressed this through minor harassment, sarcasm, and the temporary theft of fussy babies. She had a bit of a handicraft addiction, which was expressed through multiple projects ranging from a wardrobe full of home sewn scrubs to hardanger (pronounced “har danger”) table runners to handmade lace bookmarks. She never met a piece of fabric she didn’t like. She was an avid puzzle solver, ranging from crosswords to jigsaws. She also enjoyed walking or driving around neighborhoods and dissecting the houses she saw. And she was almost never without a project or a book during many, many recitals, concerts, practices and every other avocation her kids picked up. Char volunteered in the Bountiful Temple kitchen for many years. She held high standards for the salads and sandwiches she served and would put in extra work to make sure it was done right. If there was a need and no one to fill it, she would step in and take care of it. This also held true for the funerals she helped with, because someone had to do the dishes and she could do that. Char is survived by her brother Nick Newman; children Janet Marie Farnes, Matt Franchow (Stephanie), Judy Yoder (Dale), William Stratton Farnes (Susie), Alicen Metcalf (Thomas), and Andrea McDowell (BJ). Please join us in celebrating her life Monday morning June 3, 2019 at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N Main St. Bountiful Utah at 11 am for the funeral service.
