Carolyn Smith Scott, age 81, died Saturday, June 22, 2019 surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday, June 25th at First Baptist Church of Darlington with burial following in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12-1 pm Tuesday in the church sanctuary, and other times at the home, 601 Spring St. Darlington. Carolyn was born June 5, 1938, the daughter of the late Howard Pickney Smith and Rillie Anne Harrelson Smith. She graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1956 and from the University of South Carolina in 1961. Carolyn had a God given gift to minister to senior adults and she was Chairman of the Shut-ins. In addition to that service, she worked in the kitchen for Wednesday Night Suppers, was active in the Ladies Circle, served as Director of Vacation Bible School for many years, GA leader and was on other church committees throughout the years. Being a Girl Scout leader for many years, a member of several Bridge Clubs and Supper Clubs were a few of her other past times she enjoyed. When moving to Darlington in 1961, Carolyn worked as a secretary for the Robert L. Kilgo Law Firm. She also worked at the Scott family business, Darlington Machinery/Sentry Hardware for nearly 40 years. Surviving are her husband of 57 years, G. Clyde Scott and their daughters, Andrea S. Bonnoitt and Margaret S. Heustess; her grandchildren, Coleman M. Heustess, Courtney E. Heustess, Collin S. Bonnoitt, and a host of nieces and nephews. She also leaves two sisters, Lee (Roland) Jones of Darlington, and Kay Harkins of Sumter; sisters-in-law, Helen (Johnny) Deans, Sandra (the late Jeff) Yarborough, and Judy (Wayne) Thomas. Special recognition, gratitude and love are expressed to Barbara Simmons, Linda Pauley, Deborah Berry, and her hospice nurse, Shan Brown.
