Billy J. Laws, 84, of Hickory, passed away Friday, June 28, 2019 at Carolina Caring. Born February 18, 1935 in Mitchell County, NC, he was the son of the late Robert and Ella Mae Howell Laws. Mr. Laws was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War from 1953 to 1954. He had retired from Carolina Container and was a member of New Covenant Church of God. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Erenstine Banks Laws of the home; brother, Lloyd Laws; daughter, Evelyn Laws; step-daughter, Cindy Parker and husband Todd; granddaughter, Jessica, and great-granddaughter, Kinsley. A graveside service with full military honors performed by Caldwell County Honor Guard, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at Brookford City Cemetery with Bishop Dennis Pitts officiating. Pallbearers will be Anthony Plude, Todd Parker, James Banks, Mike Banks, Josh Banks, and Marcus Setzer. Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory is serving the family of Billy J. Laws.
