Funeral services for Billie Stevenson, 91, of Gilmer, will be held at 10:00 am., Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Matthew Smith and Rev. Richard Laster officiating. A reception immediately following the service will be held in the fellowship hall. Interment will be held at Maple Springs Cemetery, Leesburg, Texas. The family will receive friends between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm, Monday, June 3, 2019, at McWhorter Funeral Home. Billie was born, March 7, 1928, to Travis Winfree Dawson and Jo Edna Scott Dawson, in Austonio, Texas, and passed from this life, June 1, 2019, in her home surrounded by her loving children. Billie began life in Austonio, Texas. She graduated from high school there and she was married to Bill in the Austonio Baptist Church on Saturday, September 2, 1950. She met Bill on a blind date while living in Houston, Texas where she worked as Sales Manager for Hutchison Manufacturing. They began their married life in Houston. She and Bill moved to Gilmer shortly after the birth of their first child. In Gilmer, they began working for John and Eunice Brogoitti (Bill’s aunt and uncle) at Gilmer Seed and Feed. In 1976 Bill and Billie became owners of Gilmer Seed and Feed. They began Custom Commodities in the early 1980’s. The First United Methodist Church played a dominate role in her life. She was a member of the F & F Class for decades, Sunday School teacher, served on various boards, helped with Vacation Bible School, longtime choir member; she loved the many friends and blessings of her church family. Family was dear to her heart and the advent of spouses, grandchildren, great grandchildren was joy for her. Parties, shopping, decorating, impromptu coffee and spiced cider shared with precious friends provided her happiness and fun. Being able to “go” brought a smile to her face. She is survived by her children; Jo Stevenson, David L. Stevenson and wife, Dixie, and Tammy Orms and husband, Terry; grandchildren; David Anthony Stevenson and wife, Lacey, Katie Nugent and husband, Jake, Sarah Bones and husband, Jeremy, and John H. Moore and wife, Allison; 12 great grandchildren; Hagen Hagler, Emma Stevenson, Ella Stevenson, William Stevenson, George Stevenson, Katherine Bones, Landon Bones, Luke Bones, Cassidy Nugent, Justin Nugent, Bre Reynolds and Derek T. Moore. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Stevenson; her parents; brother, Louis Dawson; and sister, Mura Pfeiffer. Pallbearers will be Dwight Brannon, Norman Hastings, Frank Breazeale III, Gary Smith, Kirk Green and Larry Morse. Honorary pallbearers will be the F & F Sunday School Class.
