Barbara Mae Black, 90 of Danville, went home to be with the Lord at 12:46pm on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Visitation will be on Saturday, June 15, 2019 from 10-11am at Kruger-Coan-Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville with services following at 11:00am. Pastor Raymie Gordon will officiate. Following services, Barbara will be laid to rest in Davis Cemetery in Fairmount beside her husband Richard Black who preceded her in death on April 4, 2008. Barbara was born on July 23, 1928 in Arlington Heights, Illinois to Joseph and Elizabeth (Braun) Ziesk. She grew up in the Arlington Heights area with her parents and siblings. Barbara met Richard ‘Tiger” Black while he was working in Arlington Heights and the two were married in 1957. They later moved to Danville where her husband founded Colonial Manor Nursing Home. Barbara was well known for her hats and costume jewelry, and it could even be said that she never met a hat she didn’t like. She enjoyed rummaging through thrift shops for her treasures and could often be found there looking for just the perfect piece to finish an outfit. Barbara is survived by her four children: Linda Morrison and Leslie (Shelly) Black of West Jefferson, N.C., Mark Black of Danville, and Todd (Sara) Black of Champaign. She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Sara (Chris) Kronteras of Glendale, AZ; Rachel (Simon) Brazinski of Lexington, KY; Jane Black of New York, New York; Peter Black of Nashville, TN; and David Black of Oxford, MS; four great-grandchildren: Jessica, Sophia, Chance, and Elli; and one great-great grandchild Samantha. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Julius and two sisters, Delores and Eileen. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her sister, Betty Srednicki. The family would like to acknowledge the help, support, and friendship over the years of Barbara’s two friends, Deb Murray and Melanie Buck. Donations may be made in Barbara’s name to Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Activities Department.
