Barbara Kirkman Rice, 86, Catlettsburg, KY native, died Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Millennium Post Acute Rehabilitation and Nursing, West Columbia, SC. She was born August 24, 1932 in Catlettsburg, KY the daughter of the late Guy and Nancy Sanders Kirkman. She was a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Rice, a sister Ruth Kirkman Justice and three brothers Harold Kirkman, Raymond Kirkman and Paul Kirkman. She is survived by two daughters Leesa Ann Burgess and her husband Retired Col. John Curtis Burgess, Jr. of Caledonia, MS; Kathy Jean Brown and her husband Retired Sgt. Sean Brown of West Columbia, SC and a son Daniel Kirkman Rice and his wife Norma Roark Rice of Rush, KY.; five grandsons, Dr. John Curtis Burgess III of Columbus, MS; Captain Charles William Burgess of Bossier City, LA; James Kirkman Burgess of Newport News, VA; Brendan Charles Haney and his wife Austin Rieley of Jacksonville, FL and Joseph Patrick Haney of Hickory, NC; two granddaughters, Kayleigh Marie Rice of Bowling Green, KY and Lorelei Katherine of Ashland, KY; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family. Graveside services will be conducted 1:00 PM, Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery NE, Greenup, Kentucky by Pastor Mike Blankenship of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery NE prior to the gravesite service. Miller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
