Atlas Fender, 85, of Bald Mountain, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at her home after a long illness. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Viola McCurry, and the wife of Duke Fender who died in 1996. She was also preceded in death by a son: Carl Fender; a granddaughter: Marlene Wallace; and, a brother: Don McCurry. Surviving are 3 daughters: Yvonne McIntosh and husband, Dwight, Elaine Wallace and husband, Donald, and Linda Wallace, all of Burnsville; a son: David Fender of Asheville; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a great, great granddaughter; a sister: Ruth Pate of Burnsville; and, a brother: Dennis McCurry and wife, Frances, of Burnsville. Funeral services will be held at 2PM Thursday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Rev. Roscoe Briggs, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Duke Fender Family Cemetery on Sampson Mountain Road. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
