Alan Leo (Mick) LaPorta, 84 of Frostburg, went to be with the Lord and rejoined his parents as he passed away peacefully at WMHS Frostburg Nursing and Rehab on Sunday morning, June 9, 2019, due to long time complications of Parkinson’s Disease. Born February 7, 1935, he was the son of the late Leo J. (Neddie) and Mildred (Stewart) LaPorta of Eckhart. He was a member of Eckhart Baptist Church. Dad was a loving husband and father. As a young man, he enjoyed soccer and baseball, but was exceptional as a basketball player. Dad served in the US Army as a medic, stationed in Germany. He was an avid gardener, talented builder, woodworker and he loved his dogs. He coached church league basketball. Dad enjoyed projects with his kids and there was no problem he couldn’t solve, nothing broken he couldn’t mend. He loved anytime his family was together and enjoyed dinners, picnics and everyday visits above all. His love, strength and his support will be his legacy to his family. He taught us how to live by his example and his life blessed us all. Surviving Mick is the love of this life and wife of 57 years, Carole Jean (Jeanne) LaPorta; son, Michael “Mick” LaPorta and wife Theresa, and daughter, Julie (LaPorta) O’Connor and husband John, all of Frostburg; brother-in-law, John Lowery; sister-in-law, Joie Rase, also of Frostburg; nieces, Kristi Rase and Karen Boone and cousins, Mary Francis “Poochie” Kelly, Frank DeLuca and Jim Caldwell. He also leaves behind his sweet pooch, Sadie. We would like to express our undying gratitude to the caregivers who made Dad’s last year at home possible. Karen Hamilton has adopted us all and any quality of life that Dad had was because of her assistance. We are forever in your debt. Laura Lavin, Connie Ritchie and Kim Vanderhout were also sitters that allowed us more time with Dad than a normal home life would’ve given. Egle Nursing and Rehab Center in Lonaconing and WMHS Frostburg Nursing and Rehab were wonderful to us all. They gave Dad encouragement and care that he required and we as a family couldn’t have asked for kinder folks to trust with Dad’s care. We would like to thank Dr. Sidhu and Dr. Naeem and the WVU Neurology Department for their excellent care. One last thank-you to his roommate at Frostburg Nursing and Rehab, Vern Bowman for his kindness and watchfulness. The days were a bit easier knowing Dad had such a friend in you. favorite_border Donations Pledges Donations may be made to: Allegany County Animal Shelter P.O.
