Carroll’s Obituary Carroll Thomas Yankey, Sr., 86, of Fulks Run, VA passed away May 5, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born October 19, 1932 in Criders, VA and was a son of the late Lewis and Mary Thomas Yankey. Carroll owned and operated Yankey’s Grocery in Fulks Run. He retired from VDOT. Carroll was well known for his community service, and touching the lives of many people. He was a charter member of the Fulks Run Ruritan Club. He had perfect attendance for 37 years serving as president, vice president, district governor, and zone governor. He volunteered over 30 years at the Rockingham County Fair, serving as the fair’s president, vice president, and board member. He attended Mt. Grove Church of the Brethren in Fulks Run. He enjoyed his family, camping, fairs, and collecting antique glassware. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eleanor Hess Yankey; two sons, C.T. Yankey, Jr. of Fulks Run, Sam Yankey and wife Martha of Fulks Run; grandchildren, Sky Yankey and fiancé Kali Northrup; Katie Yankey Landis and husband Timmy; great grandson, Riley Landis; sisters, Bernice Keplinger, Jean Estep, Shirley Kuykendall, Linda Stultz, Sharon Lantz, Lennis Dove, Brenda Yankey; brothers, Harold Yankey, and Richard Yankey. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Chase Yankey; sister, Charlotte Crider, and brothers, Robert and Donald Yankey. Jerry Shiflet will conduct a funeral service 2 PM Thursday at Mtn. Grove Brethren Church in Fulks Run. Burial will be in the Mtn. Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM Wednesday at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway. Read More
