The Lord welcomed another member into heaven’s gates on the morning of Sunday, February 17, 2019. Born on January 3, 1942, Thomas Wayne Michael was known for his jolly spirit, quick smile and cooking. Wayne was loved by many for his acts of service for his country, his community and his church. He spent 4 years serving in the Coast Guard and would often attribute his passion for cooking to the time he spent in the boat’s kitchen while touring the western Florida coast and the island Angaur Palau. Upon leaving the Coast Guard, he began his career as a Greensboro Fireman for 28 years. During this time he served as the President of the Professional Fire Fighter’s Association of Greensboro from 1988-1995. After retirement, he became an avid player of golf and an integral part of the congregation of Moriah UnitedMethodist Church. He loved to use his deep bass voice to assist in the choir and his hands to help serve the Lord by cooking amazing meals in the kitchen for fellowship gatherings. But most of all, he used his time to help the church run successfully by holding such positions as the Lay Person and Chairman of the Trustees. Let us not forget his infamous Brunswick stew recipe and the desserts he made for the monthly “Mission Dog” sales at the church. Waiting at the gates of heaven are his parents Thomas Wesley and Rosie (Elder) Michael, his siblings Ray Davis, Carley Davis, Rachel Marsh, Carl Michael and Thelma Michael. A lifetime of cherished memories to those he leaves behind include his wife Cindy, brother Jerry Michael, daughters April (Philippe) Clement and Chrissy Jarman Smith, son Josh (Megan) Jarman, granddaughters Sophie and Chloe Clement, and Braelyn Jarman. The celebration of life service, conducted by Rev. Carroll Carter and Rev. Gene Dean, will be held at 1 pm at Moriah United Methodist Church, followed by a reception and covered dish luncheon.
