He was born November 25, 1951 in Surry County, NC, to Bertha Virginia Stroupe Harrell and the late Earnest Porter Harrell, Sr. of Ararat, VA. He worked in the apple and peach tree orchard business and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by his sisters Clara Jean Harrell of Ararat, VA; Louise Marsh (Randy) of Mt. Airy; Brenda Rachels of Ararat, VA; Lena Dixon of Mt. Airy; his brother Earnest Porter Harrell, Jr. of Ararat, VA and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at 2 pm at Ararat Church of the Living God, 4815 Willis Gap Road, Ararat, VA with Rev. Ray Fleming officiating. He will be placed in the Harold Family Cemetery, 4815 Willis Gap Road, Ararat, VA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Harold Family Cemetery Fund, c/o Lena Harold, 411 Old School House Road, Ararat, VA 24053. The family has entrusted Howell Nelson Funeral Services to serve the family.
