David Vincent Mathews, age 60, of Columbia passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at University of Missouri Hospital. He was born July 23, 1958, in Kansas City, the son of the late A. Vincent and Beverly (Clary) Mathews. David attended Taft High School in Woodland Hills, California and then entered the Air Force where he was an electrician. He also did construction work and was a custodian for Columbia Public Schools. On June 24, 2006, David and Pamela Abernathy were married in Columbia, Missouri at the Campus Lutheran Church. David was an avid sports fan with the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs being his favorites. He was a mellow, lovable man. He remembered all kinds of jokes and loved to share them to make people laugh. Survivors include his wife Pam Mathews, of Columbia; mother Beverly Mathews of Kansas City; son Collin Mathews of Sacramento, California; brother Steve (Pam) Mathews of Hallsville, Missouri; sister Mary (Kenny) Morris of Hallsville, Missouri; and a host of other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, David’s son Skyler, and his parents-in-law. Visitation will be at Campus Lutheran Church, 304 College Avenue, Columbia, Missouri from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2019 immediately followed by the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Kent Pierce officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
