Michelle Rene Edwards Mattox, 70, of Swannanoa, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Memorial Mission Campus. Born in Concord, NC she was a daughter of the late William F. Edwards and Irene Smith Edwards. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Schaly Brookes. Mrs. Mattox worked as a nurse at the Charles George VA Medical Center for 27 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Keith Mattox; a step- daughter, Sara Staab and husband David of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Leonard, Deanna, Ada and Isaiah; two special nieces, Danielle Brooks and Melanie Orr and several other great nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 2:00pm Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church at 531 Haywood Rd. with Rev. Buddy Corbin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SECU Cancer Center 21 Hospital Dr. Asheville, NC 28801.
