MELBA TUPIN October 27, 1930 – January 29, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook MEMORIAL SERVICE: 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 9, 2019, at First Baptist Church of Comanche. VISITATION: Family will meet with friends following the memorial service. LUNCH: Lunch for the family will be at First Baptist Church of Comanche at Noon on February 9, 2019. Melba Ruth (Thomas) Tupin, age 88, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019, in Round Rock, Texas. Melba had moved from Comanche after her husband, Eldon, died so she could be near her daughter. Melba was born October 27, 1930, at home in the Harmony community of Comanche County to Calvin Thomas and Noliah (Boone) Thomas. On May 5, 1950 she married Eldon Ray Tupin. They resided in Comanche until Eldon’s death in December 2016. Melba cared for her home and family full time until the Fall of 1965 when she began working for Higginbotham Bros. She worked in the General Office as a bookkeeper and computer operator until her retirement in December 1995. Melba was a very creative, active and artistic woman. A long time member of First Baptist Church in Comanche, she organized and headed for many years their Prayer Shawl Ministry, participated in the First Baptist Church Rehab Program, was a volunteer for Baptist Disaster Relief, helping with the laundry and shower trailer, and was always a willing worker. She was a great cook and very hospitable. Melba loved to quilt, and she belonged to several quilting clubs. Because she loved to grow things, she completed the training with the Texas Agriculture Extension Service to become a Texas Master Gardener. Though Melba always said she couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket, she was certainly creative, and could learn to do almost any craft there was. Many family members and others have benefitted from her talents and skills. Melba is survived by her daughter, Beverly Mercer and husband Bret of Austin; and her son Kyle Tupin and wife Debbie of Houston. She had three grandchildren: Sheryl (Mercer) Brown and husband Stephen of Dallas, Texas; Derek Mercer and wife Heather of Arlington, Virginia; and Thomas Tupin and wife Ashley of Marietta, Georgia. Melba had eight great-grandchildren: Logan Brown, Makayla Brown, Tobias Brown, Joshua Brown, Eliot Mercer, Finlay Mercer, Nyla Mercer, and Caleb Tupin.
