Womack, Jr. passed away peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2019 surrounded by family. He was 73 years old and a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. J.D. was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to J.D. Womack, Sr. and Esther Cary on July 9, 1945. He graduated from Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City where he was voted “Mr. Chieftain” by his peers in 1963. He attended college at the University of Central Oklahoma, on a football scholarship. J.D. was stationed in Germany during his service to his country in the United States Army. J.D. never met a stranger. He was a friend to all and could have a room laughing within minutes. His fun-loving personality drew many people to him. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks, and Oklahoma Sooners! He enjoyed playing golf, traveling, trying new restaurants, and going to movies, but his top choice would always be to spend time with his grandchildren and family! There was not a fan yelling louder than Papa at his grandkids’ sporting events! He never wanted to miss a game and was their biggest fan. Even through many tough health struggles and three cancer battles, J.D. never lost his sense of humor and fighting spirit. He never wanted anyone fussing over him or worrying. He fought the good fight. We are thankful J.D. was a believer in Jesus Christ. He is no longer suffering and is healed. We look forward to the day we will see him again in Heaven. He is preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Esther Womack, and his wife of 17 years, Joyce Jill Womack. He is survived by his daughter Jill Reagan and husband Brian of McKinney, Texas; daughter Kelly Rutherford and husband Paul of Plano, Texas; sister Freeda Mathis of Coppell, Texas; sister Rita Nelson of New Braunfels, Texas; sister Anita Ramirez and husband Julian of Tuttle, Oklahoma; grandchildren Cade, Everett, Lainey, Emrie and Ellis; first wife of 23 years and mother of his daughters, Cathy Taylor; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. A memorial service will be held at Allen Family Funeral Options in Plano, Texas on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 11:00 AM. We hope many family and friends will be there to celebrate J.D.’s life.
