Obituary for Salvatore “Sam” Aquino Albany-Salvatore “Sam” Aquino, 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, December 30, 2018. Sam was born on March 21, 1927 in Albany, NY, the son of Pasquale and Theresa Mazzaferro Aquino. He graduated from Philip Schuyler High School in 1948. Sam worked for many years at Capital City Container Company, the City of Albany, and retired from New York State Workers Compensation Board. Sam enjoyed golf and watching his favorite teams the New York Yankees and the New York Football Giants. He enjoyed going to Saratoga Race Course with his brother Frank, and dear friend Ralph Deagetis and wintering in Florida. Sam also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sam was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Bucci McTague Post in Albany and the Colonie Elks. He was the beloved husband of the late Ann O’Loughlin Aquino; dear father of Michael Aquino, Susan Aquino-Atwell (Jeff), Salvatore Aquino Jr (Lee) and the late David Aquino; father-in-law of Debbie; brother-in-law of Mary Aquino, Mary Ann Aquino (Mimi), Pat Silvano (Gene); cherished grandfather of Alissa Aquino (Kim), Andrew DiBell, Megan Steckler (Matt), Nicholas Aquino, Anthony Aquino (Nicole), and Justine Oliveto (Jimmy); dear great grandfather James, Elliott, Lindsey, Travis, and soon to be a fifth great grandson; brother of the late Vincent, Rocco, Dominic, Joseph, Frank, Peter, and Pasquale Aquino, Anna Aquino and Rose Perretta; Also survived by several loving nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Sam’s family Thursday, January 3, 2019 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in McVeigh Funeral Home, 208n North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206. Funeral services Friday, January 4, 2019 at 9:45 am in McVeigh Funeral Home, thence to Blessed Sacrament Church, Albany at 10:30 am where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will be held at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, NY immediately following the Funeral Mass.
