Obituary of Richard Floyd Fierens Richard Floyd Fierens, 84, of Esville, our devoted, determined, and loyal father, grandpa, “Grandpa Grape,” brother, uncle, and friend was born into eternal life on the morning of Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at his home. Dick was born in Bay City on March 4, 1934, the son of the late James and Grace (Guntermann) Fierens. While in high school, he met the former Sally Ann Johnson. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on April 30, 1955. Sadly, Sally preceded Dick in death on June 24, 2016 after 61 years of marriage. Dick retired as Assistant Chief from the Bay City Fire Department on August 1, 1992. On July 22, 1959, his journey into service to the community began when he was assigned to Engine 4 on the “A” Shift. On July 8, 1969, he was promoted to driver and assigned to Engine 6. Dick was again promoted to lieutenant at Aerial Company 2 on November 2, 1980. While a lieutenant at Aerial 2, the company was closed, and he was forced to work at different companies on a day to day basis until a permanent position became available, prior to becoming appointed Assistant Chief. Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time at his beloved cabin in Lewiston, but most of all, spending time with his family and loyal family of the Eagles #1010 and AMVETS Post 22, along with the Lewiston Moose #2495. He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Lynn Rivard, Kathy Fierens, John (Debi) Fierens, Janet (Scott) McComb, Joyce (William) Belger, along with 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson; siblings, Joyce & Dale Grigg, Charlotte & Jerry Thayer, James & Marlene Fierens ; in-laws, Bonnie Fierens, Richard Johnson, Joanne Kiepert, Kay Johnson, along with many nieces, nephews, friends, and his beloved Basset Hound, Buck. In addition to his parents and his wife, Dick was welcomed home to heaven by his grandson, Richard Fierens; son-in-law, Roger Rivard; brother, Louis Fierens; brothers-in-law, Thomas Kiepert and James Johnson, and sister-in-law, Rita Johnson. Dick’s family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday, December 20, 2018 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Eagles Service and again on Friday, December 21, 2018 from 9:00 AM until Dick’s 10:00 AM Tribute Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. Private interment will be held in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family.
