Obituary of Gladys Calvetti Gladys T. Calvetti 1931-2018 Highland Falls, NY Gladys Tinkler Calvetti entered eternal rest on Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh, NY. She was 87 years old. Gladys was born in 1931 in Florida to her parents, the late Walter (Tommy) Lewis and Janie Lee Tinkler. Gladys graduated from high school in 1948, Florida State University in 1953 with a BS, and Long Island University-CW Post in 1982 with a Masters in Library Science. During her education at FSU, she also studied the art of fencing to the top of her class. While at FSU she met her husband, the late Joseph Anthony Calvetti who was a gymnast and they married in 1953. She and Joseph made Highland Falls, NY their home and for 21 years, Gladys was a Special Collections and Cataloging Librarian at the West Point Cadet Library at the United States Military Academy. She was a skilled dancer starting from the age of three through her adult years and ending as part of the Weslyan Dance Group with the Grace Methodist Church in Newburgh, NY. She was also part of the National AAU-Gymnastics team after college which won first place in a 1953 team drill competition. Gladys was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 1986 and her first son Michael in 2011. She is survived by her three remaining sons, two daughters’-in-law and three grandchildren, plus her long time dear friend John of 40 years. A Memoriam will be held after cremation with a burial date at the convenience of the family.
