Obituary for Marie Ann Runberg Marie Runberg passed away on November 20th at her home in Longmont. Marie was born in Longmont on September 13, 1934 to Mary and Arthur Runberg. Marie began studying the violin at the age of five as noted in the program guide from her performance at Carnegie Recital Hall in 1964. When someone would see it and ask, usually in amazement “you headlined Carnegie Hall?” she would quietly reply “no, only the recital hall.” In her lifetime she played primarily with the Longmont, Ft. Collins and Cheyenne Symphony Orchestras and taught countless students piano and violin. Marie graduated from the University of Wyoming with an undergraduate degree in music and went on to earn a Master’s degree (with honors) from the Indiana University School of Music. She was also in her lifetime the recipient of awards from the Presser Foundation and the National Federation of Music Clubs. Marie was a kind and generous soul, no matter how difficult things became. She possessed a pioneer’s spirit and spine, was in fact the daughter and granddaughter of early settlers to the area. It was actually nearly impossible to get her to complain. She just didn’t know how. Most of her life Marie cared for a disabled brother and aging mother, without complaint. She was quietly one of the greatest citizens Longmont has ever had. There will be a celebration of Marie’s life on December 10th at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in Longmont, 326 Terry Street. Viewing will begin at 10am with the service beginning at 11am.
