Elizabeth “Betty” Wiernasz July 15, 1923 – December 23, 2018 Share this obituary View/Sign Guest Book Elizabeth M. “Betty” “Mimi” Wiernasz, of Middletown, wife of the late Stanley Wiernasz, died Sunday December 23, 2018 at her home surrounded by family. Betty was born in Middletown, daughter of the late Martin and Nellie (Czajka) Osora. Prior to her retirement, she was a secretary for the Judicial Department of the State of CT. She was secretary and treasurer of the Polish National Home Auxiliary as well as a communicant of St. Mary Church. Betty was proud of her Catholic faith and her Polish heritage. She enjoyed watching her New York Yankees and cheering on Jorge Posada and Derek Jeter. Betty also loved the UConn Women’s Basketball team and got a kick out of the feud between Gino and Pat Summit. Betty loved to travel, her fear of flying meant she took many bus trips. When she woke each morning, the radio would be on WCNX, and on Sunday, Ray Henry’s Polka Show could be heard. She was known for a good, “matka boska” and for finding a bargain when she went “poking” in Bradlees, or at church fairs and tag sales. Betty is survived by daughters, Judy Nolan and her husband Kevin of Cromwell, Linda Wiernasz and her husband Paul Murray of Florida, granddaughters, Shelly Nolan and her husband Chris Rouleau of Portland, Kasey Nolan of Middletown, Gretchen Sonstrom of FL, brother Ray Osora and his wife Pat, sisters, Terry Maltese, Paula Darby and her husband George, sisters-in-law, Ann and Jean Osora, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Gertrude Magnano and her husband Frank, brothers, Joseph Osora Frank Osora, Stanley “Stimmy” Osora, brother-in-law Corrado “Budge’ Maltese Betty’s family would like to thank the staff at Middle Hospice for all the support, care and compassion given to Betty over the past three years. A special thanks is given to her sister, Terry for always visiting and supporting her, and to Lori D’Amato for always making Betty look beautiful. Her Funeral Liturgy will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, Middletown. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
