Obituary of William Brown William (Bill) W. Brown of Newport, RI and Boxford, MA passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 9, 2018at the age of 82 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth (McCrohan), and his sons, Christopher (Andrea) of Natick, MA and Timothy (Christine) of Sandwich, MA, as well as his four treasured grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Beverly Savioli of Bedford, MA. He was predeceased by his brother, Russell, and his sisters, Mildred, Barbara, and Virginia. Bill was born on May 24, 1936 in Malden, MA to William P. and Helen (Irving) Brown. He graduated from Malden High School in 1955, where he won a school record of eleven varsity letters. In 1989, he was inducted in to the Malden High School Hall of Fame. A football scholarship led Bill to Boston College where he enrolled in the School of Business Administration. As a quarterback, he earned accolades for his unrivaled work ethic and strong arm. While at BC, Bill met his future wife, Mary Elizabeth McCrohan of Newport, RI. The couple graduated in 1959 and were wed a year later. From 1959-1961, Bill served in the US Navy in Newport, RI. After being honorably discharged, he began a successful 40-year career in sales management including time with IBM, Honeywell, and Instrumentation Laboratories. His talent and sterling work ethic allowed Bill to accomplish what he valued most, providing for the family he loved. After retiring from corporate America, Bill started his own residential property management company. As a result, he could often be found at the top of a 50-foot ladder painting houses in Newport well into his mid-70’s. Bill’s surviving family will long remember the value he placed on – and the pride he took in – hard work. When not engaged on a project, Bill loved spending time with his sons and grandchildren, watching sports, and playing golf. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Visiting hours will be 5:00 – 8:00pm on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring Street, Newport, RI. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Church, corner of Broadway & Mann Avenue, Newport at 10:00 am. A reception will follow at the Cambria Hotel, 240 Aquidneck Avenue, Middletown. Burial will be private. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bill’s life.
